Shalom y'all! This is my blog that will detail my adventures in knitting and crochet. In case y'all don't know, chains are of course used in crochet, and a WIP is a Work In Progress, both in knitting and crochet.
I go by either Debbie or DeeDee -- I got the nickname DeeDee from my nephew Brandon when he was little and couldn’t say Debbie. I added the Q later when I met my friend (now wife) Mary Sue, who was called SuzyQ by her late father. The 5724 is my birth year on the Hebrew calendar, which I picked when there were more than one DeeDeeQ on yahoo mail! Anyway, I go by DeeDeeQ5724 on Ravelry and Flickr.
I learned to knit about 30 years ago, when I was visiting my pen pal in Copenhagen. Well, she TRIED to teach me, but all she really succeeded in was teaching me how to cast on! (Not a bad thing at all.) I found a knitting book sometime later which showed me how to do the stitches and I became a knitting fool! My paternal grandmother used to crochet but she never taught me -- I learned how about 15 years ago, again with a book.
Back to Ravelry, where I spend most of my time online (that and Facebook!). It's a great website for fabric artists of various kinds, and you can catalog your WIPs, your stash of yarn, patterns you want to make, plus find many more patterns and yarns there. And if you find a pattern online that isn't on Ravelry, you can publish it yourself. I just did that with this cute little backpack pattern, which is available on YouTube. But there's no written pattern, so I am starting this blog to be able to publish that (if I get her permission), as well as patterns I have devised myself.
